Hello Everyone π I hope you are very well.
Today i am going to discuss how to get the driver’s license in Ireland Step by Step.
First of all you have to pass a theory test and get a learners license which is valid for 2 years for a learner’s permit application which is also known as Certificate of Competency. If this certificate is over 2 years then you have to apply for a theory license again and get that certificate.
But Please note that to apply for the license you have to live here in Ireland for altheast 185 days in a calendar year.
There are 2 ways to apply for a license.
- Online and the link is – https://www.ndls.ie/index.php
- In Person and the link is – https://www.ndls.ie/booking-service.html
To Apply Online you will definitely need the following as if not then the application wont proceed.
- A PPS Card and verify government ID.
- Proof of your address
- A proof that shows that you live normally live in the ireland.
- A medical report if required.
- Application fee of 65 euro but if you are over 70 then this fee is exempted.
To Apply in Person –
- Book an appointment ( there is no walk ins available ).
- You have to bring the same documents that we discussed above.
Once you get your learners permit than you can start taking the learning car sessions which is mandatory called as 12 hours of EDT with an approved driving instructor (ADI).
But please make sure you have to keep your learner’s permit for atleast 6 months before you get you driver’s test.
Once you clear your Driver’s test you can apply online for your Full Driver’s License here at Roadsafety.ie.
Now here we come i am going to give my personal experience in getting the Full Driver’s license in Dublin π
Very Well I cleared by theory test by scoring 39 out 40 so i took it very easy, Later and then i started taking the EDT sessions as again total i also took 12 sessions so for each session cost me 55 euros. Can you imagine just for 1 hour it takes 55 euros so now you can easily calculate 12 hours mandate sessions with 55 or 60 euros each.
Easily i got my lessons with a few days after getting my learners permit but again here is the drawback i could not go for driver’s test as i have to hold my learners permit for at least 6 months. Once this period was over i started applying for the drivers test and here we comes the waiting queue was so long so that it took me almost a year to get my slot and book date and time which was suitable for my time table.
I took my slot and went for the test as i was so nervous and confident that i would easily crack this but when the result came i failed YES i failed by driver’s test in Dublin and i got so many points mark down which i never thought. I was not happy at all same feeling like everyone feels if some one fails so i thought why not to appeal the result and took this to District court but again i thought if i do that it would take couple of weeks and my learners permit would expire.
So at the end i had to admit that i failed and move on with the results. I thought why not to take some extra lessons and focus on those points which i missed last time. So yes i took my extra lessons and took another slot at Tallaght Center before my learners permit expire. And the heard was pumping again and dont want to loose this chance and went for the result, here we are i cleared my exam and literally i had tears in my eyes. I never thought i could achive this license especially in Dublin because in Dublin its way too crowded. So yes i was very happy and celebrated this achievement with my friends.
I hope you liked my Blog, if you want any more information or feel like i missed please let me know in the comments section and i will reply you all.
