5 Habits Neurosurgeons Recommend for a Sharper Brain

Have you ever experienced that you enter in a room and you forgot why you came ?

Have you experience you pick a phone to dial but forgot whom to call ?

Have you experienced that you forgot the name of the person ? You even sometimes forget what you had in your breakfast ?

When you start doing a work or important task of the day, you put all your efforts but do not pay attention after 10 minutes? you start to lose focus from the work and you switch your task ? You start checking social media apps or just avoid that important task ?

Generally we think that we are getting old and that’s why it happened, but this is not true at all.

Do you know and this has proven by scientists that our brain changes every day. It adapts everyday.

It constantly reshapes every day based on your daily activities.

Today in this blog we are going to see how we will sharpen our brain, increase focus and how to support long term brain health.

Habit 1 – Fix your sleep schedule

This is the most important habit that you need to be consistent with your sleep.

Do you know when we sleep, our brain does not sleep and it actually maintains our brain – it organises our memory, the information that we had consumed in a day – it stores.

So if you are taking less sleep, you are more awake by taking drug tablets, alcohol or coffee – all the above things that we discussed it is impacting so badly.

Habit 2 – Move your body in the morning

Whenever you wake up just move your body, either go out for a walk for 5 to 10 minutes.

Do instant yoga, take deep breaths, go out for any activity if you are a physical person, do cycling or any other activity which just moves your body.

The reason for doing this when we do any physical activity, blood flow from our body would increase and it releases important protein which we call it as NEUROGENESIS.

So exercise is not just important for our health, it is important for our brain as well.

Habit 3 – Don’t ignore strength training

Strength training will improve health of blood vessels and it helps the body to digest the glucose.

This is important because the primary fuel for our body is GLUCOSE.

So if you start add this strength training 2 or 3 times a day, you are not only building your muscles but you are also improving your fuel efficiency of your brain.

Habit 4 – Practice mindfulness for 10 minutes daily

We all know that how are life is stressful. Everyone has some of their own problems to deal with. Ex – starting going to school, taking good education, clearing interview, getting a high paid job and then our relationship life, dealing with partners or children and all.

So life is all about moving on with time but taking stress with time all as well.

So do you know when we take stress then with the name of Cortisol hormone releases from our body and this negatively impacts our brain which is directly impacting on our attention, focus or brain health.

So that’s why it is recommended to do at least 10 minutes of mindfulness, it could be in the form of meditation, deep breathing or prayer etc or anything which you like.

Our goal is not to stop our thoughts but to absorb our thoughts.

Habit 5 – Stop multitasking

You won’t believe that our brain is not trained to do multi task at a single time.

Everytime we are focusing or push our brain to do and it results that we are weakening our brain.

We sit on a chair to work on the report but at the same time we are checking our phones, checking our email, checking our grocery list and so on.

What you are doing is, you are diverting your brain from one task to another.

You are using more energy of your brain than required and hence your brain loses memory and you start forgetting things.

So from now on just make one simple habit, when you are doing one task just do one. Ex – when you are cooking just cook, when you are listening to songs just listen, when you are studying no phone check etc.

When you start doing all these small habits you would see a great improvement in your life.
